Artist Statement

I often look at my jewellery as something of a dichotomy, drawing inspiration from nature, history, mythology, and now and then my architectural background raises its head and leads me down a serendipitous path to designs unforeseen. Through swirling, meandering lines combined with bursts of colour I bring my designs to reality using a variety of techniques, often indulging in my passion for enamelling.

Biography

Michelle Sparks is a Canadian artist, designer & metalsmith. With a Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction in Jewellery + Metals from the Alberta College of Art + Design her influences are vast and varied. She has exhibited internationally in the Parlement Lycéen Européen Traveling Exhibition through France, Belgium, Portugal, Spain & Italy. In 2009 her work was featured in the Alberta Craft Council”s Coming Up Next exhibition. Based in Edmonton, Michelle continues to create and find inspiration in the world around her.
